Watch our races on
May 26th... Jeff seemed poised for another good night when we arrived and he drew 27. He lined up 3rd for the heat race and realized quickly that this week's adjustments on the car were a little too tight. He had been maintaining the 3rd position until a couple laps in when on entry to turn 3 he hit a rut and became a flight risk with the car teetering on its right side. The cars behind him were able to pass on the bottom and he was shuffled back to finish in the 5th position. He dialed back the setup and lined up 14th for the feature. He moved his way up to 12th and was finding a rhythm when the leader just barely lapped before a caution was drawn. He made two charges on the high side in turns 1 and 2 but was never able to push forward thanks to inopportune cautions. He brought home an 11th place finish.
May 12th... The car was repaired in time for another showing at Federated Auto Parts Raceway in Pevely. Jeff's pill draw of 21 put him in prime position to make up for last week's disappointment. He started 3rd in the heat race. After a lap or two Jeff pulled forward for the lead and held on for his first ever win in a super late model. He also earned enough passing points to start on the outside pole of the feature when the dice roll left the lineup heads up. Jeff pulled out to an early lead and then held steady in 2nd place for the first several laps before dropping back to third. He slipped back a couple more spots before moving to the bottom after catching lap traffic. He stayed in the top 5 until a mid-race caution. After the restart track owner, Ken Schrader, spent a few laps working his way up to and overtaking Jeff. The race ended with a side-by-side photo finish for 6th place and Jeff was scored 7th.
May 5th... A pill draw of 68 put a damper on our spirits as we arrived at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55. Our concern was well-warranted when Jeff realized in staging for his heat race that his power steering wasn't working. He missed the heat race in hopes of making repairs in time for the feature. Though unable to fix the problem, Jeff headed out for the feature for some seat time. He had worked his way up to 13th, from a 20th place starting position, but was unable to hold on to the wheel any longer. He pulled in at lap 19 and was scored 18th.
April 28th... Rained out.
April 21st... After a week off, Jeff arrived at Federated/I-55 for some more seat time in the late model. He drew 52 for his pill. He lined up 6th in a stacked heat race. Within the first couple laps, he had moved up to third, a position that he held through the end. Passing points and the dice roll set him up to start 3rd in the feature. Jeff was able to hold a top-5 position running the bottom for the first few laps. He lost his rhythm as the race went on and slipped back a few positions. He tried a few different lines and was able to stay in the top 10, finishing 9th.
April 7, 2012... Hoping to get the chance at a full feature this weekend, Jeff arrived at Federated Auto Parts/I-55 Raceway Saturday, with the car repaired. His pill draw was 5 and he started the heat race on the pole. Though he put in a good first lap and a half, he slowed in turn 2 to avoid a car and was ultimately charged with a caution. After going to the back of the field, Jeff finished 9th. He was scheduled to start 18th in the feature. Jeff put in several laps, trying to find his rhythm. While trying to make a pass on the bottom in turn 3, he ran out of room and spun. Following the restart, he worked the bottom to put in some solid laps. Jeff passed a few cars and benefited from a few cars dropping out, finishing 6th.
April 6, 2012... Looking for a chance to get some more laps, Jeff made the trip to Granite City, IL to race at Tri-City Speedway. He drew 46 for his pill and was slated to line up 5th in the heat. He elected to go to the back, starting 7th instead. Jeff ran some different laps, trying to figure out the track and ultimately finished 5th. Jeff lined up 14th for the feature. At the drop of the green he was in the midst of a good first lap when the caution came out. On the restart, Jeff was caught while trying to avoid a spin in turn 3 and suffered contact from another car. The contact knocked the toe out and the damage cut down a tire, leaving Jeff unable to finish the race. He was scored as 18th.
March 31, 2012... We arrived at Federated Auto Parts/I-55 Raceway for the first start in a Late Model. With a pill draw of 67, Jeff didn't have to worry about electing to start in the back. He lined up 8th in the heat race. Trying to get some laps under his belt, Jeff spun about half way through the race. He pulled back in line and put it some more laps, finishing 8th. Jeff lined up 15th for the feature and hung in there for the full 25 laps, trying to get a feel for the track. He finished 12th.
